The Toronto Justice Service Collaborative is an initiative that is part of the 10 year mental health and addiction strategy. "Open Minds, Healthy Minds: Ontario's Comprehensive Mental Health and Addictions Strategy” commits to the formation of 18 Service Collaboratives to support coordinated services for children, youth and adults. The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is sponsoring the Systems Improvement through Service Collaboratives (SISC) initiative; 14 geographically‐based Service Collaboratives and 4 justice and health‐related Service Collaboratives are being established in three phases. CAMH is currently in the beginning stages of establishing an adult focused justice collaborative in Toronto. As part of this process, they are identifying and engaging key stakeholders that need to be involved in this initiative including key stakeholders working with racialized communities, particularly members of African-Caribbean and South Asian communities.
In preparation for the first service collaborative meeting, in Toronto, CAMH is working with consultants at Optimus SBR to prepare a Needs Validation / Community Health Equity Profile Report. This report will include population data, service data, a system map to describe how the system is functioning and an analysis of specific juncture points in the justice system for key complex mental health and addictions needs, with specific focus on adult vulnerable populations. This report will support the service collaborative in making an evidence-informed decision to select a gap and intervention that will address the populations' needs and support a more well coordinated and integrated system.
