July 2018 - The Friday before the long weekend and our national recognition and celebration by some and resistance by others of the formation of our country Canada, we were greeted with unexpected and disappointing news. The newly elected government of Ontario had decided to disregard tradition and do away with the Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration. The Ministry has played an important role in Ontario’s economic development plans.
This three-year project builds on leadership skills, deepens understanding of school governance and promotes the active participation of Toronto’s Latinx families in school and community life. Working Women Community Centre and The Mennonite New Life Centre offer a FREE training program to provide Latinx parents with the opportunity to become active advocates for their children’s education.
Ontario civil society groups and refugee advocates issued a joint media release urging the Ontario government to stay engaged in intergovernmental collaboration to resettle refugee claimants arriving in Canada from the United States. They call on government and media to use responsible language and factual reporting in order not to inflame anti-refugee sentiment.
