Immigrant Women Integration Program (IWIP)

IWIP strengthens the skills of newcomer and immigrant women living in neighbourhood improvement areas and inner suburbs to become community leaders who are engaged in the development of their communities. It is a full-time training program. Deadline to apply extended to December 8, 2024. The new cohort of IWIP trainees will start in January 2025!

Temporary pause of application intake G5/CS - PSR Program

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada has temporarily stopped accepting new applications from Groups of Five and Community Sponsors until December 31, 2025. IRCC will continue to process applications and resettle PSR applicants whose applications were submitted before November 29, 2024. One year window applications and the addition of dependants to existing applications will continue during this time.

Pause de réception des demandes du G5/RC - PPPR

Immigration, Réfugiés et Citoyenneté Canada (IRCC) cesse temporairement d’accepter les nouvelles demandes du Groupe de cinq ou de répondants communautaires jusqu’au 31 décembre 2025. IRCC continuera de traiter les demandes et d’assurer la réinstallation des demandeurs du PPPR dont les demandes ont été soumises avant le 29 novembre 2024. Le traitement des demandes visées par le délai prescrit d’un an et des ajouts de personne à charge à une demande en cours se poursuivra durant cette période.

Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC)

Canada Retraining and Opportunities Initiative supports workforce planning and skills training in communities significantly impacted by a mass layoff. It provides funding for community-based projects that help workers develop the skills they need to transition to new jobs. Application period: October 16, 2024 - March 31, 2025. The call may close earlier if funding has been fully committed.

Seniors Community Grant Program

These grants support community organizations and not-for-profit community groups to promote greater social inclusion, volunteerism, and community engagement for older adults aged 55+. By Ontario Ministry for Seniors and Accessibility, grants range from $1,000 to $25,000.
Submit your application by Thursday, January  16, 2025, at 5 p.m EST.

Ontario Bridge Training Program 2024

The program helps highly skilled newcomers access licensing and employment in their field without repeating previous training and education. Applications will be accepted in the following two program streams: Getting a Job—Direct Service Delivery; Getting a Licence—Direct Service Delivery.

Gender Difference in Earnings

This Statistics Canada study explores earning differences between women and men within 11 population groups in Canada. While the overall gender earnings ratio increased from 1996 to 2016, these gains were not distributed evenly across population groups. The highest earnings ratio was observed among Black workers, where Black men had the lowest mean earnings of men in the 11 groups.

A Study on the Black Executive Community in the Federal Public Service

A groundbreaking new report finds pervasive systemic anti-Black racism and discrimination in Canada’s federal public service. It reveals that Black leaders have faced a deeply hostile environment marked by threats, abuse, cruelty, subjugation, insubordination, intimidation, baseless complaints, and relentless harassment. The study was commissioned by the Black Executive Network (BEN) and authored by Dr. Rachel Zellars.

Still Overqualified and Underemployed

A groundbreaking study by Canadian Council of Muslim Women (CCMW) explores stories of diverse Canadian Muslim women’s challenges and pathways to employment success. It is part of CCMW’s multi-year ASPIRE project with reports and factsheets available in French and English. To launch the report, CCMW hosted a panel discussion on Muslim women's experiences in the Canadian workforce and employment inequities.

Two Steps Back The Impact of Ontario’s Rollback on Healthcare Access for Uninsured Residents

The report highlights the impacts of the cuts to the Physician and Hospital Services for Uninsured Persons (PHSUP) funding that ended on March 31st, 2023. It also calls on the Ontario government to (1) establish OHIP for All, and (2) reinstate the PHSUP program immediately, along with other recommendations.

Conditions for Growth: Reconsidering Closed Work Permits in the Temporary Foreign Workers Program

This report by the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration (CIMM) was presented to Parliament on November 6, 2024. The report is the result of the CIMM study on the impact of closed work permits on temporary foreign workers (TFW), and findings related to the TFW program by UN Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of slavery, Tomoya Obokata.

This study by Leger, a Canadian market research company, aims to amplify the voices of Canadian newcomers, building bridges with government institutions, service sectors and brands. The study surveyed hundreds of individuals who arrived in the country within the last 10 years, regardless of their immigration status.
