It is the beginning of Women’s month. Although the first week in Toronto - Treaty 13 Territory where I reside and where OCASI’s office is located it is Black Mental Health Week. The Week was inaugurated in 2020 by the City of Toronto’s Confronting Anti-Black Racism Unit in partnership with Community Health Centres like TAIBU - , mandated to serve the health needs of Black Torontonians and the Black Health Alliance, a multidisciplinary network. Black Women’s mental health is a feminist issue. Black, Indigenous and racialized women’s history with the medical establishment is women’s history - often ignored or erased but still women’s history/herstory.
International Day Against Victim Blaming is Saturday, April 3rd, 2021. To mark the occasion Embrave Agency to End Violence launched the campaign, What Does it Take to be a GBV Ally? The year-long campaign seeks to spark critical conversations on allyship that are not happening enough (or in the spaces they should be) in Peel Region.

Women and Gender Equality Canada has issued a call for proposals to address or remove systemic barriers impeding the progress and advancement of women, in all their diversity, in three priority areas: leadership and decision-making positions, improving economic security and prosperity and ending gender-based violence. Statistics Canada recently released a survey on diversity on non-profit boards, the first of its kind in Canada. It was carried out through crowdsourcing in December 2020 and January 2021. Survey Advisory members express concerns about the limitations in of that methodology in a Joint Statement, and call on the federal government to appropriately collect disaggregate data on charities.
