What to learn:

  • Learn to navigate the Peel Newcomer Profile data tool
  • See languages, poverty levels, education levels, ethnicities, and housing of newcomers
  • Compare across both immigrant and non-immigrant populations across the region
  • See the new ‘refugee layer’ function, showing location and complexities of refugee services
  • Learn how this powerful tool can be scaled up and customized to other geographies across Canada

The tool is an online resource that shares newcomer specific data and an interactive map of the assets in Peel Region using statistics from the 2011 National Household Survey at 77 small levels of geography covering all three municipalities in Peel Region (Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon).

This webinar is of specific interest for those who want to use data to:

  • service map including newcomer settlement, faith based organizations, community centres, libraries;
  • understand inequities such as newcomer poverty levels compared to non-immigrant poverty levels, un and under-employment aligned with educational background, and more;
  • enhance outreach, program planning and implementation; and
  • making a strong case for resources, including to funders.

The Peel Newcomer Profile was developed by Peel Newcomer Strategy Group and the Region of Peel, Peel Data Centre, as a result of conversations with service providers including informal and formal settlement services speaking to the need to understand the realities of newcomers.
