OCASI members experience on the IRCC 2024-CFP

In March 2024, OCASI and other national umbrella associations launched a bilingual survey to capture and reflect their respective members’ experiences with the 2024 IRCC Call for Proposals as well as IRCC's webinars and events related to its 2024 CFP. OCASI shared its survey results (English & French) with members in May 2024.

Canadian Network for Equity and Racial Justice (CNERJ)

The Canadian Network for Equity and Racial Justice (CNERJ) was launched on June 7, 2024 in Ottawa, by OCASI with COP-COC and the CCNCSJ. This initiative aligns with the North American Partnership for Equity and Racial Justice, aiming to address systemic racism and promote equity across sectors. Fall 2024 plans include workshops, community engagement, and policy advocacy.

Réseau canadien pour l'équité et la justice raciale (RCEJR)

Le Réseau canadien pour l'équité et la justice raciale (RCEJR) a été lancé à Ottawa le 7 juin, 2024 par OCASI avec COP-COC et le CCNCSJ. Cette initiative découle du Partenariat nord-américain pour l'équité et la justice raciale, visant à répondre au racisme systémique et à promouvoir l'équité dans de nombreux secteurs. Nos plans pour l'automne comprennent des ateliers, ainsi que des activités d'engagement communautaire et de plaidoyer autour des politiques publiques.

WOSOOL Research Findings Are Here!

WOSOOL is a partnership between Canadian Arab Institute and Arab Community Centre of Toronto aimed at combating anti-Arab racism with the goal of enhancing the delivery of settlement and social services. The project aims to fill a knowledge gap of anti-racism related to Arab newcomers, and create toolkits and training modules for service-provider organizations. OCASI is an Advisory Committee member.

Take Action - Automatic cancellation of work and study permits

Migrant Justice Clinic is collecting case studies of automatic cancellation of work and study permits by IRCC. This is a new development following amendments made to Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations (IRPR). MJC is collecting cases to analyze the impact of the change and organize to take action.

À la Clinique pour la justice migrante, nous sommes témoins de personnes qui se voient refuser le renouvellement de leur permis de travail. Nous avons créé un court formulaire, afin de recenser le plus grand nombre de cas possibles et d’amasser ainsi des données sur le sujet. À la suite de cette collecte de données, nous aimerions réfléchir collectivement à un plaidoyer et à une mobilisation publique à ce sujet.

Nonprofit Law Ontario (NPLO)

Nonprofit Law Ontario (NPLO) is a project through which ONN provides legal education and training for public benefit nonprofits. This project was initially launched by Community Legal Education Ontario (CLEO) in 2013, and transferred to ONN in 2024. NPLO creates sector-driven collective solutions that help nonprofits and charities meet their legal needs through caring legal education.

Register for Canadian Council for Refugees Working Group meetings on September 12-13 in Montreal. This is a free event. Registration is required to facilitate organizing the event. You do not have to be a CCR member to attend. The meetings are closed to the government and media.

Recent Immigrants and Canada Child Benefit (CCB)

The Office of the Auditor General of Canada has called for an examination of the degree to which Canada’s hard-to-reach populations receive the government benefits they are entitled to. This Statistics Canada study assesses the degree to which immigrant couples who landed in Canada with young children from 2016 to 2019 received CCB in the year following landing.

Skills Development Fund: Training Stream

Ontario Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development is accepting applications for this funding stream until October 4, 2024. The SDF Training Stream offers funding to organizations for innovative projects that address challenges to hiring, training or retaining workers, including apprentices, to drive Ontario's economic growth.
