Assisted Voluntary Return Program
Date/Time: November 21, 2013, 12pm to 1pm
Presenter: Francisco Rico-Martinez, Co-Director, FCJ Refugee Centre; Nicola Graviano, Programme Manager, Canada AVRR Pilot Program, International Organization for Migration (IOM); Mohammad Al-Shalchi, Team Leader, AVRR Liaison Unit, Canada Border Services Agency
Description:  The Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) program is a Government of Canada pilot that provides support to unsuccessful refugee claimants in or around the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) who voluntarily leave Canada. The pilot is being administered by a partnership between the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) in the GTA since June 29, 2012 and is now offered in communities across Ontario. This webinar will give participants an introduction to the program, how it operates, how to refer clients to the program, and an opportunity to ask detailed questions from IOM and CBSA representatives.

 

Overview of Bill C-31, “Protecting Canada's Immigration System Act” - REGISTRATION FULL

Presenter: Sharry Aiken, Associate Professor at Queens University and a former President of the Canadian Council for Refugees
Description:  This webinar will introduce and review Bill C-31, which came into force this fall, and has significantly changed the refugee determination process, to the great concern of OCASI and other stakeholders.  Learn about the changes and their implications for refugees and Canada.  This webinar is intended for all settlement and integration practitioners, regardless of whether you work directly with refugee claimants.   

 

Conditional Permanent Residency

Date/Time: February 6, 1 pm to 2 pm
Presenter: Atulya Sharman, Community Legal Worker, South Asian Legal Clinic of Ontario.
Description: This workshop will do an in-depth review of the new conditional permanent residency conditions for sponsored spouses, and will consider the implications clients experiencing marital breakdown, and family violence.
 
 
Specifics of Bill C-31: BOC & front-end procedures
Date/Time: January 29th, 10 am to 11 am
Presenter: Francisco Rico-Martinez, Co-Director of FCJ Refugee Centre and a former President of the Canadian Council for Refugees.
Description: This workshop is targeted to those working with refugee claimants, and will provide specific information about the new Basis of Claim (BOC) document and other front-line procedures that practitioners need to be familiar with, with the full implementation of Bill C-31.
 
Changes to General Immigration Policy
Date/Time: January 22, 10 am to 11 am
Presenter: Avvy Go, Clinic Director of Metro Toronto Chinese & Southeast Asian Legal Clinic
Description: This webinar will review recent changes to immigration policy and impacts on immigrants (permanent residents), such as citizenship language requirements, the “Super Visa” for parents & grandparents, the points system for the Skilled class and the Expression of Interest model, conditional permanent residency, and the lower threshold for deportation based on criminality.
